A Dip in the Brink

Correction: I got an email from Greg and evidently this story doesn't fit what he was told by his dad about when he was in the army. So for now, it remains a mystery who this story is about. :)

Here's the email I got from Greg.

"hmmm about tht letter,,, dad "arthur francis arnold" was in WW2 in te army as a medic at first he landed iwith eisenhour "operation torch" in morocco went all across north africa up across sicily and made the landings at salerno beach, anzio beach and was at monte casino as a medic as the army fopund out he was a boyscout and knew first aid (whle in basic training)he almost was made a pilot but got virtigo in the link trainer test..was wounded at monte casino (refused the 2 purple harts and bronze star he told me others deserved them more) while recuperating in naples he and his captian went to the beer and cig. dump to get thier ratins and were asked to pay for them..long story short version dad endded up in charge of the dump and the other guy went to stockade,, he remained ther as a tsgt on charge of the beer and cigs will the war ended..dads brother alvin john arnold joined the army about a year before pearl harbor and was made a clerk on a generals staff as he knew how to type and spent the war all thu pacific ending up in the japan occupation.."

So...he thinks it could be a friend of the family or it could be from Bing's side. I'll let ya know if I figure it out. :)
